FBA, BSP & BIP Support in Schools
School-based FBA and BIP support for complex cases, staffing gaps, or second opinions. Collaborative, practical recommendations for teams in Nassau & Suffolk.
We can help!
When a student’s behavior is interfering with learning, safety, or participation, teams need more than a generic behavior plan, they need a clear understanding of why the behavior is happening and what supports will work in the real school day. Meaningful Metrics partners with families and school teams to conduct or strengthen Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) that are practical, measurable, and collaborative. Some districts use the term BSP (Behavior Support Plan) instead of BIP. Don't worry, we support both!
Families may reach out when:
-
The school completed an FBA, but the results don’t feel accurate or actionable
-
The case is complex and you want a more experienced BCBA to support the process
-
The plan exists on paper, but isn’t translating into consistent support at school
School districts may reach out when:
-
Staffing and/or time constraints make it hard to complete an FBA thoroughly and in a timely manner
-
A team needs an FBA to guide placement considerations, recommendations, or goal development
-
The team wants support turning assessment results into a plan staff can implement consistently
-
Staff are looking for guidance, mentorship, or targeted teaching in completing FBAs, reports or using data impactfully
What we can provide:
-
School-based observation and routine analysis (as appropriate)
-
Review of records, existing data, prior FBAs/BIPs, and intervention history
-
Interviews and collaboration with school staff and caregivers
-
Hypothesis development (function and setting events)
-
BIP development or revision with actionable strategies and clear responsibilities
-
Follow-up review to monitor progress and adjust the plan
-
Data collection systems that are feasible for school teams
-
Implementation coaching / staff support to improve consistency
-
Professional development (in person or via our online academy courses specially curated for school staff)
Our Process:
-
Intake + goal setting (what the team wants to improve and what’s currently happening)
-
Records + data review (what’s been tried, what data exists, what’s missing)
-
Observation & collaboration (as appropriate for the case and setting)
-
FBA Report + recommendations (clear, practical, measurable)
-
BIP creation or refinement (strategies, supports, and data plan)
-
Team follow-through (coaching and check-ins to support implementation)
What you can expect
-
A clearer understanding of patterns and contributing factors
-
Recommendations that fit the student’s day and the classroom context
-
A BIP that staff can actually use and track progress
-
Improved consistency across adults and settings
-
Measurable goals and progress monitoring tied to the plan
L. Family
"Dr. Heller's impact on our family is not something that we can measure (although she would probably have some cool graph saying otherwise!). Our daughter has gained so many important skills and her future remains bright. We are so grateful for her help over the years!"
School Administrator
"Dr. Heller's ability to bring teams of people together is truly remarkable. She has a honest and true sense of what is best for children and that shines through in every meeting. Not only is she an incredibly knowledgable person but she is an adovcate for those who cannot advocate for themselves first and foremost."
Occupational Therapist
"Dr. Heller is a BCBA who understands and incorporates self regulation, safety and fun into sessions. We have worked so well as a team and the impact on [our shared student] is leaps beyond where I thought it would be this year."
